From field to future: Redeveloping Harper’s Field for the next generation

In partnership with the City of Tea Tree Gully, Sarah Constructions delivered a transformative $12.6 million redevelopment of the Harper’s Field Community Building and Sporting Clubrooms — a key element of the precinct’s Masterplan.

Located in Adelaide’s northern suburbs, the project responded to growing community demand for quality recreational and wellbeing spaces and facilities. The works included two distinct new builds: a single-storey community hub and a two-level sports clubroom facility, both thoughtfully integrated into the leafy surrounds of Golden Grove.

The new community building feature’s multipurpose function spaces, a café and community kitchens, meeting rooms, a community shed and upgraded carparking. The community building is also home to a Wellbeing Hub, providing preventive health programs and support for the communities of the Northern suburbs. The clubroom facility supports Golden Grove Football and Cricket Clubs and includes four changerooms, a gym, grandstand seating, umpire rooms, a canteen, bar, kitchen and a state-of-the-art function area.

Delivered in a live, operational environment, the project required strategic staging, continuous stakeholder consultation, and strong environmental management. The result is a vibrant, future-ready precinct supporting local sport, wellbeing, and community connection — officially opened by the Premier in 2024 and awarded SACA’s Community Cricket Facility of the Year in 2025.

Value Management

To help manage the project budget, which was impacted by the cost associated with ground conditions, Sarah’s team contributed to the redesign of the Stage 2 landscaping works. This included reviewing the pavement extent and delivering significant cost savings — supporting the client’s objectives without compromising functionality or user experience.

Staged Delivery with Zero Disruption to Operations

Delivered within a live community precinct, this large project required careful planning to ensure the ongoing operation of sporting and community programs.
Sarah worked closely with the Council and Clubs to understand their needs and developed a tailored staging strategy. Stage 1 focused on constructing new facilities while the existing buildings remained fully operational. Once complete, Stage 2 commenced, delivering landscaping and upgraded playgrounds — all without interrupting precinct activities.

Trusted Stakeholder Relationships

Sarah’s transparent and collaborative approach fostered strong relationships with both the Council and local sporting clubs.
While the Council led stakeholder engagement, Sarah’s open communication and inclusive project delivery earned the direct trust and support of key community representatives.

Local Economic Boost and Recognition

The project created 37 full-time jobs — capped off by formal recognition from SACA, reinforcing the project’s long-term community impact.

With a project this size the Council were critical in partnering with a quality Builder. Sarah Constructions ticked all the boxes with that partnership appeal, from the early works to the finished product, the level of expertise on site was paramount in delivering the build. Council is extremely happy with what has been achieved, together with the wider North/ Eastern community of City of Tea Tree Gully.
