About Adrian Esplin
Adrian Esplin is the CEO of Sarah Constructions,
a family business established in 1961. Adrian has lead the organisation since 2014. In that time Adrian has grown the Sarah business three fold to an annual turnover of $0.5bn with Sarah establishing itself as a significant commercial contractor and property owner in South Australia.
Adrian’s career has spanned more than 25 years in commercial construction and development, starting in 1994 with GHD as a structural engineer, before moving into contracting with Lendlease. In 2000 he commenced with Brookfield Multiplex and in 2007 became a Regional Director and member of the Victoria/South Australia Executive. During this period Adrian also assumed responsibility for Multiplex Developments SA.
Adrian has served on various business and community boards and is currently Director of Youth Inc, an alternate education provider for disadvantaged youth with Youth Inc recently achieving accreditation from the Department of Education.
Adrian also continues his association with the University of Adelaide as adjunct lecturer for the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
Adrian was appointed SA Division President of the Property Council in March 2020 and has been a appointed a National Board Director of the Property Council since March 2020.

About James and Tim Sarah
Directors James and Tim Sarah live and breathe the values of strong relationships, high-quality solutions focussed construction, long term sustainability of the business and creating an environment where the Sarah team thrives and excels.
James has been involved in the business for 30 years and has a Bachelor of Applied Science (Building Studies) from the SA Institute of Technology (now UniSA), an MBA from Bond University and a Dip CDC (Company Directors Course) from the Australian Institute of Company Directors of which he is a Fellow. James is also an Alumnus of the Harvard Business School OPM (Owner/President Management) program.
Tim is a chartered accountant by profession and holds a Bachelor of Economics, an Executive Master of Business Administration from the Australian Graduate School of Management, a Diploma of CDC from the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. Both James and Tim are experienced public company directors and Fellows of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
James and Tim jointly lead the Sarah team to deliver on our values and enrich the relationships with all stakeholders.
Outside of Sarah, James has held several non-executive directorships in the not for profit sector. He has also been heavily involved in industry associations having been President of both the Australian Institute of Building of which he is a Fellow, and the Property Council of Australia of which he is an Honorary Life Member.
Tim is a director of Anglicare SA Housing Pty Ltd, deputy Chair of Uniting Care Wesley Bowden Inc. and a keen supporter of Catherine House Inc. He has held director positions at KeyInvest Ltd, and as the chair of St Andrews School Walkerville Inc. Tim has sat on the Master Builders Association of South Australia Inc.’s Committee of Management, and the SA State Government’s Small Business Development Council.
Tim is currently studying a Bachelor of Arts. A love of surfing and adventure travel fills in the rest of his time.
About Anthony Carbone
Anthony oversees day-to-day operations, while taking on large scale and complex projects for Sarah’s valued clients.
Anthony’s committed, customer-centric approach began with Sarah back in 2004. He first gained experience as a Project Manager, then as Construction Manager, before assuming his current role as General Manager. His on-site experience is complemented by formal qualifications in Building and Management.
Anthony has an impressive list of major projects under his belt and would be more than happy to discuss how he can apply his knowledge and experience to successfully deliver your next project.
Anthony is a Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) board member with a focus on strengthening the CITB to maximise its effect in industry, to increase skills and training and to advise government on skills needs in the construction industry.
Anthony is also a CESA Tenison Woods Board member and together with sitting principals led the master planning initiative realising the plan through property acquisition and development of Tenison Woods’ first major capital works project in years.
As a Master Builders Association of SA (MBA) committee member, Anthony strongly advocates for a better construction industry and provides a balanced perspective on current and future policy.
About Terry Tsapaliaris
Terry has more than 21 years’ experience in the industry; 6 of them with Sarah Constructions as the Operations Manager. Terry has an open and collaborative style when interacting with his team and clients alike.
Terry’s role at Sarah includes leading and supporting his project team’s approach through methodology, programming and contractual obligations. Terry’s also there to ensure the highest level of service to our valued clients. This is echoed by his formal qualifications from the University of South Australia: a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management and a Master of Science in Project Management.
Your next project’s in safe hands with Terry and he would be pleased to speak with you about his regular site visits for compliance, budget and general risk management.
Outside of Sarah, Terry enjoys partaking in the physical aspects of building. He also works with a not for profit culturally diverse community project managing the infrastructure upgrade program.
About Sean Aplin
Sean can be summed up in four words: determined, passionate, creative and precise. These four qualities are also the reasons why your next project with Sarah will be an outstanding success. Every project requires an eye for detail and Sean will ensure it’s there.
Sean has more than 30 years’ experience in the construction industry, 18+ of them with Sarah as the Construction Manager and for the past 9 years as Sarah’s Design Manager.
Sean holds an Associate Diploma in Building Tech (Dux of Course) and completed the Senior Managers Live in Course at the Mt Eliza Business School.
In the past, Sean has been an active fundraiser for the Daw House Hospice and The Cora Barclay Centre.
Sean’s personal interests include family, making wine and enjoying wine, travel, good food, watching his sons play football with CBC Old Collegians Football Club, taking long walks on the beach with his Jack Russells and tinkering on projects at home.
About Michael Kilmartin
Michael is highly imaginative, passionate and genuinely helpful when working with Sarah’s valued clients.
His 25 years in the industry, 15 with Brookfield Multiplex, provide him with a huge advantage when managing a team of designers, as they work on resolving the complex project issues that typically arise when striving to achieve Sarah’s clients’ visions.
Michael’s love for architecture is matched by his qualifications and industry membership. He has a Diploma in Architectural Drafting and is a Founding Member of the Australian Architecture Association (AAA).
Michael will ensure your project meets or exceeds its quality, time and cost objectives.
Outside of day to day business, Michael has a strong interest in Residential Design and Architecture along with a hands-on approach to building.
He is up to Stage 6 of renovation works in his current home. Since the late 1990s, Michael has operated a small Residential Design and Construct business between South Australia and Victoria where he holds Building Practitioners’ Licences, working with local trades to help out friends and family with smaller bespoke projects based on good design and best practice outcomes.
Other than enjoying time with his family/kids living near the beach, Michael continues his 45-year passion for playing basketball.
About Jon Anderson
Jon is a communicative and proactive Construction Manager with more than 15 years in the industry. His project management experience spans large-scale education, health, infrastructure and retail projects.
Jon is highly regarded in the management of complex staged projects where there is a need for the client’s business to remain operational. His methodical approach to forward planning means students, residents and shoppers are always front of mind, and business disruption is minimal.
Jon has successfully managed a wide range of projects for clients including the University of Adelaide, Catholic Education and ALDI to name a few. Jon has an impressive track record in ensuring these projects are delivered on time and on budget and contribute positively to the customers overall Masterplan.
Jon has a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) and a Bachelor of Science (Environmental Earth Science) from the University of New South Wales. This skilled technical background fosters a passion for new technologies in construction and he currently leads Sarah’s research into cutting-edge and efficient modular solutions.
Jon is also a strong supporter of the next generation of engineers and currently mentors the UniSA Undergraduate Sarah Scholarship winners.
About Richard Hough
Richard is passionate about Sarah’s people. As a well-known Master Builders Association (MBA) Apprentice Carpenters’ mentor, Richard was the natural choice to oversee the training and development of site supervisors and personnel at Sarah.
In his 30 years of commercial construction experience, Richard has also held the lead role on project delivery for award winning Sarah projects such as Margaret Ames Centre for Immanuel and the Wilderness School of Performing Arts.
With a carpentry background, Richard has a skilful ability to drive performance in subcontractors and staff. Since joining the Sarah team in 2005, Richard ha held numerous roles within the business from Site Supervisor to Project Management. The broad range of experience provides Richard with a thorough understanding of the operational requirements of our business along with his keen interest in staff development makes him ideally suited to the role of Construction Manager.
Outside of Sarah, Richard keeps himself busy in his involvement with the Australian Institute of Building, consulting on industry reform, continued professional development and university collaboration and mentoring.
In his spare time, you will find Richard playing in his band in pubs and clubs around Adelaide or catching a wave at one of South Australia’s surf breaks.
Richard continues his love of the outdoors with regular hiking, having completed over 400km of the Heysen Trail and has a goal to complete the 1,200km trail in coming years.
Richard combines his passion for hiking with an annual charity hike to raise awareness and funds for Bowel Cancer prevention.
About Salem Tredrea
Having commenced his career with Hansen Yunken, Salem joined Sarah Constructions in 2014 as a Project Manager delivering complex projects. In 2018 Salem was promoted to the position of Construction Manager with a strong focus on collaborative, teams based approach to achieving project objectives and meeting or exceeding clients’ expectations.
Salem’s experience is impressive having successfully delivered large-scale aged care, retirement living, education, health and retail projects, many in the form of Design and Construct.
Salem has a Bachelor of Construction Management and an Economics degree from the University of South Australia.
Having received the Australian Institute of Building’s R.A. O’Neill Award for his dissertation on Green Star Projects, Salem has maintained a focus and passion for sustainable and innovative construction throughout his career.
Salem facilitates Sarah’s graduate program mentoring the transition from study to practical application. This role provides opportunities to support schools, universities, training organisations and student associations, such as BOSS (Builders Organisation for Students and Staff) to promote the industry.
Outside of Sarah Salem enjoys AFL, going to the gym and spending time with family and freinds.
