Sarah proudly ignites innovation for St Ignatius students
St Ignatius College has been one of Adelaide’s finest schools for more than 70 years, with its senior school campus located in leafy Athelstone.
In 2022, Sarah Constructions was engaged to deliver the College’s $8M Andrea Pozzo Centre for Art, Design and Technology (named in honour of a 17th century Jesuit brother, architect, artist and academic),
The stunning two-storey building is now home to the College’s creative students and is designed to foster cross-curriculum collaboration and opportunities for students to work with the latest technologies.,
The ground floor features technology facilities including machinery workshop areas, general learning areas, storage, offices, lift, stairs and amenities, while the upper level boasts art and design facilities including exhibition areas and general learning areas, as well as storage spaces and amenities.
The simple, elegant design complements elements of the College’s existing architecture but with a fresh and thoughtful perspective, and Sarah’s team were committed to retaining the architectural intent while constructing the buildings functional, sustainable, and engaging spaces.
While delivered under a Construct Only engagement model, the project was characterised by a high degree of collaboration with the architect and superintendent Architects Ink, and continual and proactive engagement with the school community.
Demolition and delivery inside a fully operational school environment, construction within a constrained footprint, and the discovery of latent ground conditions drove Sarah’s team to develop innovation construction methodologies and carefully plan and stage the works to minimise disruption to students, staff and parents.
Sarah is proud to have delivered this new hub for future generations of creatives and design thinkers.
