The best place to work!

Starting with my initial interview to work at Sarah Constructions I instinctively knew I was in the right place. I was met with such warmth and familiarity, like I was with family. This feeling has continued throughout the last 6 years with every member of the Sarah team.

For the last four years I have worked as the Managing Contractor Contract Administrator for The University of Adelaide Facilities Investment Plan. I have had the pleasure of working with multiple Project Management Teams both internal and external and have developed long lasting relationships with everyone. During this time, I have been able to develop my skills further in financial control, reporting and training along with managing my own projects. The duality of my role allows for multiple career pathways going forward, this is greatly encouraged by Senior Management, at any time you can always change direction and try something new.

What I enjoy most about role is the interaction I have with the Clients and stakeholders, with every new build I learn so much about the functionality of different buildings e.g., medical, education, hospitality etc. Every building is unique, and my primary goal is to make sure the Clients feel the service we provide is just as unique.

This is what makes Sarah the best place to work!

Working at Sarah has been the most positive experience!

I began my journey in the construction industry immediately following the completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil & Architectural Engineering at the University of Adelaide. At the time, I knew very little about construction, what it had to offer, and what I could bring to the table with a background in engineering. The Sarah Graduate Program allowed me to learn from an array of industry professionals within the business, some of whom came from the same engineering background as myself. I found my niche for project management and was enlightened to know the construction industry was a viable opportunity for my career development.

During my progression from a Construction Graduate to a Project Coordinator, I worked on projects ranging from office fitouts to greenfield multi storey dwellings and advanced my coordination skills in balancing numerous trades and consultants. I was also given the opportunity to cultivate and progress my people management skills by mentoring and training upcoming graduates.

After almost 5 years on site, I took the opportunity to join the QHSE department as a QHSE Advisor. This role has given me a broader view of the business as a whole and a better understanding of the systems that support all operations of the company. Every day is different, and I enjoy being able to work in different sectors within the QHSE space.

Working at Sarah has been the most positive experience thanks to the culture and people willing to support each other.

From Senior Management to Project Cadets, everyone is valued and a part of the Sarah family

Upon completion of a Bachelor of Construction Management and Economics I gained full time employment with Sarah as a Construction Graduate in February 2017. The Graduate Program was a new initiative at Sarah, and I found this program perfect for an introduction into the construction industry. As someone who was just starting out their career, I was able to develop new strengths and had gained a substantial amount of professional experience working on fast paced projects across both South Australia and Northern Territory.

Since the completion of the graduate program, I have been given many opportunities to further my career. I have been able to engage and collaborate with a large number of people within Sarah Constructions ranging from new Graduates through to Senior Management. I am extremely thankful to be a part of a company who take the time to ensure that the career development and opportunities for the staff is a priority.

I am currently a Project Manager working within the Sarah Retail Team, a role which I have been working in for the past year, but 4 years previously from Graduate position (2017). I thoroughly enjoy the team and environment that I work in, as I find it to be both challenging and rewarding. One of the many great things about Sarah as a company is that they provide the same level of service and professionalism to 6 week retail projects that they would to a landmark multimillion dollar unique project.

From Senior Management to Project Cadets, everyone is valued and a part of the Sarah family. I couldn’t think of a better place to start or continue a career!

There’s no other place I’d rather work.

From the day I first started at Sarah, I have experienced their culture of “people first” and tailoring a career path to suit peoples’ ambitions and passions within the industry.

My pathway has been one of diversity and encouragement, all tailored to reach my career goals – I started with Sarah in my final year at university by being the successful recipient of the Sarah Constructions Grant, which transitioned into their Construction Graduate Program, I then moved into their Site Supervisor Traineeship.

Currently, I am a Site Supervisor, working on a wide range of projects from refurbishments, fit outs, and new builds. During my time I’ve also had the opportunity to work alongside upper management, design, safety, and project delivery teams, which furthered my knowledge not only within the business but the construction industry as a whole.

What I love about Sarah is their investment in people. Upper management are always providing new and innovative opportunities for ongoing development ranging from training days, site visits, structured programs and having an open-door policy providing support for their staff – they really want to work with you to become the best you can be.

There’s no other place I’d rather work.
