At Sarah, you will be given the chance to take control of your career and where it takes you, in a flat and flexible environment. This includes the ability to gain cross-functional experience and to contribute to our ongoing commitment to innovation and business improvement.
After studying a Bachelor of Construction Management and Economics I gained full time employment with SARAH Constructions as a Graduate in 2012.
From the moment I started, I absorbed a wealth of knowledge from all facets of the busines. I engaged with Project Managers, Supervisors, Safety Officers, and all levels of management and built strong work connections quick and fast. I was given many opportunities to excel my career through collaborating with professionals who have the same drive for success and am grateful to be part of a work environment that is built on family values.
I am currently a Senior Project Manager and have been part of some of Sarah’s most successful projects including Wilderness School Redevelopment, Minda, Pembroke Middle School and currently the SA Super Schools PPP Project.
What keeps me really engaged, involved, and driven is the people I work with every day. With a wealth of knowledge and experience between us, we all play a part in the success of the business and its exceptional reputation. Yes, we do build great buildings, but we build stronger connections with our team, our clients and subcontractors and focus on the well-being of each other.
This is what makes Sarah the best place to work!
I spent over 20 years in Retail Management before finding an opportunity with Sarah through networking events. After joining I was given the opportunity to participate in a number development opportunity including:
- Mentoring from senior managers;
- Women in Leadership initiatives;
- External Innovation Programs;
- Advanced Negotiation training;
- Sarah’s Leadership Program; and
- Multiple Industry Events.
I am Currently a Project Manager – which I absolutely love. I have spent the best part of 3 years at University of Adelaide IIP and have relished the challenges and experiences there. My favourite projects to date are BSS Flexible Learning L2,3 &5 ($5m) and Engineering Nth Shared Labs & Thermal Link ($3.5m). The culture at Sarah is amazing and the values are demonstrated every day at every level. We have an open-door policy and Senior Managers are supportive and very approachable.
I do not regret for one moment changing my career direction and joining Sarah!
In 2016, I was successful in acquiring a Graduate position with Sarah Constructions. At that time, the Graduate program was broken into 3 sections: project management, estimating and site supervising. I found this program immensely valuable as I was able to express my strengths and weaknesses, thus determining which sector I was most tailored too. Whilst this programme is not always an option it was a definite advantage and defining point in my career path.
The following year, an additional programme became available within the company which I was again fortunate to complete. Similar to the Graduate Programme I undertook the previous year, this specific course was tailored for those employees who had an interest in becoming a Site Supervisor.
I am currently working as a Site Supervisor on an internal refurbishment fitout. I thoroughly enjoy having such a big impact on a building that started as a blank canvas, transforming the space for the client and end users is a fulfilling task. This is one of the most rewarding feelings as it depicts the multiple elements of construction ranging from the design period, construction phase and to the handover to final users.
From my first day, I have found Sarah’s culture to be very inclusive and encouraging towards those from every level of the company. Each colleague is always willing to go out of their way to help you, just as much as you are eager to learn from them. The culture truly streams from senior management and flows right through to each and every employee.
