Department for Education , Modular: Grange Primary School

In terms 2 and 3 of 2022, Grange Primary School received a significant facility upgrade featuring three main components; the construction of a new single storey, 800m2 Innovation Centre encompassing general learning areas, breakout spaces, a resource centre, outdoor learning areas and an internal link to another building; the refurbishment of student amenities and meeting rooms; and the refurbishment of staff amenities, offices, meeting rooms and a new southern reception entry with external canopy.

Sarah’s involvement commenced in the Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) phase, where we worked collaboratively with architect JPE, structural designer Aurecon, and services engineer Innovis in value engineering workshops to achieve more than $300,000 savings, allowing the project to proceed within the Department of Education’s budget.

Under the Design and Construct contract administered by Project Manager Sensum, Sarah’s scope of work included demolition of the existing building, construction of the new building, refurbishment of some existing facilities, and landscaping.

The fast-tracked project was delivered within an operational school environment, and on a constrained site with challenging geotechnical conditions, leading Sarah to develop innovation construction methodologies to ensure the safety and structural integrity of the new building.

Staff and students were able to commence learning in the Innovation Centre in Term 4 of 2022, a full term earlier than expected.

The result is a contemporary, elegant building that greeting students, families and visitors, and houses an open, flexible, inclusive, innovative and welcoming learning environment.
