A thriving new community of learners

Morialta Secondary College is a new purpose-built co-educational government school, located in Adelaide’s leafy north-eastern suburbs, on the site of the previous Norwood Morialta Middle School Campus.

The college is being established through a unique staged approach, welcoming up to 200 Year 7 students each year commencing in 2023.

Sarah Constructions has a long-standing reputation for delivering high-quality, bespoke infrastructure for the South Australian Department for Education, and was thrilled to be awarded the contract for Morialta in early 2022.

The open design and state-of-the-art technology across all buildings supports modern pedagogy principles through communal collaboration spaces, flexible learning spaces and indoor-outdoor learning environments, with architecture inspired by the various landmarks contained within the Morialta Conservation Park, and the history of the area’s First Nations people.

After deconstruction of the previous outdated buildings on site, Sarah’s team commenced delivery of Stage 1, a state-of-the-art three-storey learning precinct building including a library and café.

168 excited Year 7s and 30 College staff moved into their new classrooms in Term 1, 2023, when Sarah’s team carefully continued construction within the operational precinct, with Stage 2 delivering a second three-storey learning building, a two-storey administration and performing arts building, gymnasium and landscaping works.

Considerable challenges including the topography of the sloping site, and unprecedented levels of rainfall during the 2022 winter, required Sarah’s team to be innovative and responsive, and lead a collaborative approach to solving complex problems.

Sarah’s proactive, inclusive, and transparent approach has been appreciated by the client, College personnel, consultants and subcontractors, and was integral in completing the project on time and within budget.

In Term 1 2024, the College welcomed its second intake of Year 7s, and is a thriving community of learners and educators.
