End User Excellence For Flinders Uni Biodiversity Research

The new Biodiversity Facility provides an exciting addition to Flinders University’s upgraded science precinct. The state-of-the-art, purpose-built research and education biodiversity facility allows for enhanced research, collaboration and teaching opportunities in conservation and biodiversity.

Bespoke to the new 670sqm building was the incorporation of specific environmental conditions with a strong focus on humidity, temperature and light control. This was required to cater to the aquatic, terrestrial, insect, lizard and algal inhabitants. The facility was built into the hillside, incorporating teaching spaces alongside custom designed rooms and large external lizard enclosure, with the under-croft housing the service provisions.

The services are fundamental to the operation of the building, maintaining optimal conditions for the inhabitants, and incorporate Air Blowers, 20,000L of Salt Water Storage, 10,000L of Dechlorinated Water Storage, Air Conditioning Plant and a Freezer room – all with electronic monitoring and links to the building management system.
Externally wrapped in cladding materials to suit the environment, with new service roadways and improved surrounding landscaping, the new facility makes a positive impact both internally and externally.
